Multiyear tropical warm pool warming temporarily slows Antarctic ice-sheet mass loss

A new Nature study found that Antarctic Ice Sheet mass loss briefly slowed between July 2021 and April 2023 because of multiyear warming in the tropical warm pool. Satellites recorded a gain of about 695 billion tonnes of ice during that span, but the research concludes this was a temporary interruption in a longer-term trend of substantial ice loss.
