Multiyear tropical warm pool warming temporarily slows Antarctic ice-sheet mass loss

Researchers from China and international partners reported that Antarctic ice-sheet mass loss temporarily slowed after the continent gained about 695 billion tonnes of ice between July 2021 and April 2023, the largest such gain in nearly two decades. The study links the rebound to multiyear warming in the tropical warm pool, but emphasizes that it does not reverse the long-term decline in Antarctic ice mass.
